Recap of the 2018-2019 School year:

Our class received the entire school Attendance Matters Award and Trophy for both the 2nd and 3rd Trimesters. Our entire class met all their AR Goals and had significant gains in reading levels. Our class raised enough funds to come in 3rd place in the Pennies for Patients fundraising campaign wherein our school partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise money for young children in our area that were affected by blood cancer. All three of our 2nd grade class representatives received blue Superior ribbons at the ACSI Speech Meet. We had an amazing Outreach trip to the Dino Papavera Senior Center and field trips to Raymond Alf Museum of Paleontology with lunch at John's Incredible and a trip to the San Bernardino Museum. Some 2nd grade students in our class were invited back to Preschool to be Guest Readers during our Read Across America Week of Being Kind. Our class representative did a fabulous job at the District ACSI Spelling Bee. We experienced substantial growth in both STAR Reading and MAP testing through the use of Personalized Learning Environments and integrated technology with on-line learning. We celebrated Valentine's Day by integrating Bible and Science by making Dirt Cups and talking about the Parable of the Soil. We discussed what makes up soil, which soil plants grow best in and how God's word are the seeds that need to be sown in our hearts so we need to be sure our hearts are soft fertile soil ready to receive God's word and bear the Fruit of the Spirit. We finished up before Christmas break with a fun Polar Express Party, decorating cookies, doing a book exchange and learning about Geometry in Math . We finished our year with an awesome Cereal Box Biography Book Report. Other projects we had fun doing this year were: our Dinosaur/Fossil/Rock report for Open House, an Election Project with speeches and campaign posters, a Pumpkin Character Book Report, and a Timeline project to get to know each other at the beginning of the year. Other field trips we had this year were the Lewis Playhouse to see School House Grammar, Los Angeles Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and a virtual field trip to Plimoth Plantation with a re-enactment of the 1st Thanksgiving wherein Mrs. Cassaro's class were the Native Americans and Mrs. Sheff's class were the Pilgrims. We had a fun Peanut's theme Spirit Day where everyone was dressed up like a Peanut's character. We had a fun Harvest Snack Celebration in October and students all had a chance to eat roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruit with their edible part of a plant snacks. We did the Pumpkin Carving Prayer, read Spookley the Square Pumpkin, made a Spookley Snack, and ate our Edible Plant snacks while watching the Spookley movie. We celebrated Grandparent's Day, Lunch with Parents and had fun almost every month celebrating the Birthdays of our classmates. We had lots of Family Fun Nights put on by our awesome PTF this year along with an amazing Walk a Path Fundraiser. Our class earned our Walk a Path Pizza/Dance Party for exceeding our $1,000 classroom goal and some students even received individual prizes as our top contributors. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on September 26th reading about the Life of Johnny Appleseed, sampling different kinds of apples with caramel dip, and learned about adjectives using our five senses to write down our apple observations. We've had 5 amazing Cafe's for a Cause to raise funds for Outreach, wonderful Chapels, and events such as Police Appreciation.
